Edit: January 10th is Over! Thanks Everyone!
So, incidental watchers, it's my birthday
tomorrow today. (Yes,
tomorrow today. dA's birthday machine tells lies. Nevertheless, thanks to everyone who already wished me a happy birthday!) Birthdays haven't really been grand affairs for me since elementary school, and I expect this one will pass quietly too, which is fine with me. I'm getting to the point where I need to start denying my birthdays (even though I still apparently look a comfortable 17). Still, since it is my birthday, I thought I should do something for it, so I figured that instead of getting presents, I would offer to give you all presents, in the form of:
~
A Day of Free Sketches!~
I wanted to be able to use Livestream for this, but unfortunately my laptop, home to my Cintiq, has had the flu for several weeks. This means that there would be no point in doing the sketches all at one time, so the "day" in day of free sketches refers not to the fact that they'll all be done on my birthday (they won't be) but that you get the whole of that day to submit your requests. (This also means they'll probably be traditional.) So, to get to the point, here are the particulars!
ParticularsDepending on how many people make requests, I probably won't be drawing requests for everyone. I reserve the right not to draw any character, to choose characters to draw completely arbitrarily (based on my whims), or not to draw anything you might request at all, depending on whether or not the character grabs me. So just to be clear (and as a disclaimer in case it upsets anyone), making a request here will not guarantee you get a sketch, it just puts you in the pool.
That said, you can make up to
three (3!) requests per person! That gives you three tries at coming up with something I like well enough to draw. Please don't make more than three, though. If you put up three and I like two or three of them, I may draw two or three of them! (Or, again, I might still not draw any of them. Really depends on my mood.) However, I will try to do at least one from every person who puts up one I like before I start doing repeats.
Please keep in mind that (1) my sketches are not likely to be very clean. I generally sketch very messy. (This is me trying to keep your expectations low.) Please also keep in mind that (2) I do not guarantee that any of these will be fullbody shots; they may be waist-ups or even busts, again, depending on my mood, and (3) I am not setting myself a deadline for these since they are free, so I can't tell you when you'll get them (I will probably do a sketchdump at some point when I have done all the ones I want to).
Also, I'll be drawing characters individually (one at a time!), so no scenes, please. However, you may request any character, be it an OC, a fan character, or a character from an anime/movie/TV show/etc. Just keep in mind I suck at drawing babies.
Not that anyone would request a baby, I don't think. >_>
To Make A Request:1. Comment on this journal with your request(s), at any time from
12:00:01 AM EST January 10 11:59:59 PM EST of the same day.
Any requests made outside that time frame will NOT count! Make sure you include:

A
reference (or multiple reference links) for each of the characters
Three words succinctly describing each character's personality.

Anything SUPER VITAL about each character that I'm unlikely to know based on the references you link to.
2. Make sure you read all the text in this journal again
just in case you missed something the first time.
That's really all. Oh, and if you want to increase the chances that I'll draw your character, here's some things that I feel like drawing at the moment: Alien people, critters/monsters, and people with crazy/complicated clothing.
Happy January 10 to you, and I can't wait to see the characters you love.~

Here's something on faces I did tonight. I don't know if it'd be at all useful to you, but it was fun, anyhow. Will do bodies later.

Of course, doing all of this digital stuff is much easier if you also have a tablet, but I didn't get a tablet for a while. Before that, I inked things on paper and only colored them on the computer. These programs and tools can help, but I wouldn't recommend trying to get them all at once. They take a little time to learn and you might just want to concentrate on learning art basics first--that generally helps beginners more than just diving into a computer program, and as long as you have a good eraser, traditional sketches can be inked and cleaned up just as well! (Kneaded erasers are much better than pink ones at this.)

I could try making some kind of tutorial, but to be honest I'm still learning too! I'll see if I can whip something up for you some time. And barring that, I'm actually working on a bunch of sketches right now, so you'll be able to take a look at those at the very least. In the meantime, there are a few things on here: [link] that still have shapes beneath the sketches, as well as lines of action.
