As much as I love them, I highly doubt OCTs will be around forever. They're amazing, but nothing lasts forever. If it does last, it won't remain how we know it. Sooner or later people will lose interest and the current OCT crowd will die. New ones may rise to take our place, but they'll be different, and as things are different us old OCTers will probably look at it and declare the old days were better.
Admittedly, I was tempted to hit the one about OCTs being past their prime, but somehow that doesn't seem right for me to say. I've only really been involved with LoT and EfN, and just because at the moment I'm feeling a tad exhausted and disillusioned to their epicness, that doesn't mean they're past their prime. I think if I were to say that I'd have to whack myself in the face since I don't think I have the right.
It will probably be around for a looooong time. The flood of OCTs is less a sign of it being past its prime, and more an event similiar to when Anime got big. It becomes overdone and bloated for a while, but, just like how anime is slowly falling out of the Everything Thinks It's Cool state so will OCTs, and there will eventually be an reasonable amount of OCTs.
On the other hand, so many OCTs mean that everyone can have a go!

Crappy OCTs that aren't well thought-out are a fad that will die. Well thought-out OCTs, however, have that potential to last a while if the people running them have an idea of what they are doing.

I'd like to see them stick around, but don't forget Sturgeon's (I think?) law: 90% of anything is crap. Sure there are several bad OCTs around, but keep at it and the gems will shine through.

Considering how damned addictive they are, I'm guessing there'll be at least a few people throwing OCTs for a long time yet... If only to feed us addicts.
After all, battle leagues like SDL and EnterVoid seem to have good staying power, I think as long as there are leagues there will probably also be OCTs; at the very least a few league-inspired spinoff tournaments.
Though the current flood will likely die down after a while. Right now it seems like OCTs have just hit the mainstream and become trendy, so everyone and their dog wants to start one... After a surfeit of failed/abandoned/half-baked tournies, though, the less dedicated people will probably wander off to do something else, leaving a more modest number of occasional tournies. (Decent ones, hopefully.)
